Happy New Decade!
Sometimes it’s hard to believe that Esperanza Education was founded over 10 years ago (13 to be exact!). While our team members, services, and priorities have shifted over the years, we remain strong in our commitment to promoting social change through progressive approaches to education.
In 2020, we continue to offer consulting services in curriculum and program development, teacher training, education research, translation, and editing. We also have contacts and resources for many kinds of language services, so don’t hesitate to be in touch about anything language/education related!
What are we up to?
Looking back at our 2019 posts, it’s pretty obvious we’ve got parents on the team now. Kath welcomed her baby in the summer and has shared great posts about infant sign language and “parentese” (baby talk and how it helps babies learn). My daughter is 2.5 years old now, and I’ve shared posts about her bilingual language learning which continues to develop and fascinate!
In addition to parenting, we’ve also continued on our own learning journeys. I am working away on my PhD in Indigenous language revitalization, and, in the fall, Mary joined me at the University of Victoria in the teacher education program. She recently shared about a new education standard for teachers aimed at contributing toward reconciliation and healing with Indigenous peoples in BC.
Mary has also continued to work with Language Partners BC, and new language exchange programs will be starting in 2020 in both Vancouver and Victoria!
What are you up to?
Have you been reflecting on the past decade? Are you choosing to prioritize language learning this year? Whatever your goals and aspirations may be, from all of us at Esperanza Education, we wish you a happy, healthy, and language-filled 2020!
